Message: Wonderful, teaching growing skills to provide food. I did this when I taught horticulture in schools. It depends which part of the country you live, the south is more favourable than the north. Broad beans can be planted in autumn to harvest in early summer, rocket has a low germination temperature, salad greens can be started in containers and moved outside. Leeks can be planted the summer before an harvested in spring. Radishes are foolproof. "Rocket" potatoes are early, you may get some of them. The problem is that the UK school year does not coincide with the garden year. School holidays were traditionally lined up with busy times on the farm. The best of gardening to you!

Message: I work with key stage one children and would like to know which vegetables and their varieties we can grow to harvest and use in our cooking by June the same year.
