Amerton Garden Centre

(page 2)

HOUSE PLANTS
There was a small display of indoor garden plants for sale and they looked in good condition. The prices were average.

INDOOR SALES AREA
As we mentioned earlier, Amerton Garden Centre is not your average garden centre. This applies to the indoor sales area. It is about the size of a small to medium garden centre. It will not satisfy all your everyday gardening needs, we were unable to find a spade or fork for sale. Instead they have concentrated on rather unusual items. Possibly these appeal more to the clientele they are aiming at.

CAFE AT AMERTON FARM AND CRAFT CENTRE
Cafe at Amerton's I think the cafe was independent from the garden centre, but it matters not to you as a visitor because they are next door to each other. The interior of the cafe is very attractive.

You are inside a barn with exposed beams everywhere. There are steps leading up to a minstrel's gallery. The tables and chairs are wooden in cottage style.

The food was excellent at the cafe. There was a range of main meals at around £6.95. Lots of snacks, cakes, teas and coffees are available at competitive prices.

The cafe had taken particular care to provide a good range of vegetarian dishes and some gluten free ones. The cafe claims that all food is cooked to order and the taste of the food backs up this claim. Service was to your table by helpful and very pleasant staff.

Unusually, the cafe at Amerton has produced a leaflet outlining their Food Purchasing Policy. Ask for it at the cafe if you are interested. It explains that they attempt to source food locally wherever possible.

Every type of food served at the cafe is itemised together with the principal supplier and their location. I have never seen this in a posh restaurant let alone a cafe. It's clear that this cafe takes its food very seriously and excellent meals and snacks are the result. This cafe has our five star rating.

DISABLED FACILITIES
All areas were accessible by wheelchair without any problems. Floors were flat and even.

TOILETS
The toilets were adequate with disabled facilities and mother and toddler facilities.

CAR PARKING
Car parking was fine with generally flat surfaces in all areas

We had a good look round the Craft Centre and found it interesting.

Of special interest was the pottery shop run by James Gauge. You can see him work at the potters wheel making lots of different pottery. Kids and adults can also use the design studio to create their own designs on blank pottery. Visit the James Gauge Amerton Pottery website by clicking here.
