Aquarium and Pet Centre
The Aquatics centre was the largest we have seen so far. There was an enormous variety of fish available. In addition, Dobbies stocked a large range of tanks, accessories and fish feed.

The Pet Centre was well-stocked but not to the level as the Aquatics centre. A good selection of small pets were available including birds. Additionally they stocked a range of pet needs and feeds.

Other Attractions

Dobbies Garden Centre at Atherstone have a large variety of in-store shops including crafts, gifts and cards. They also host a huge outdoor clothing section (click picture on the left to enlarge it).

The picture on the left also shows their food hall which has a butchers and delicatessen. Although the fresh local produce looked good, it was on the expensive side.

For the children, there is a kids play park to keep the younger ones amused. For all the family there is Plantasia, Maze World and Wild Walk. These are major attractions and well worth a vist. They are horticulturally based yet at the same time the whole family will enjoy these attractions.

Restaurant / Cafe Facilities
No trip to a big Garden Centre would be complete without a snack or meal at the cafe and the Greenapple Cafe will not disappoint. It's large, airy and attractive. In warmer weather you can eat on the patio which is very pleasant.

If you click the picture on the left you can see the hot food menu available at the Cafe in 2007.

There are also salad s available plus a range of snacks, teas, coffees and other drinks.

Prices seemed very competitive for the quality of the food and we rate the value for money in the cafe as good.

Cleanliness was good, there were lots of staff available to clean the tables. Service was faster compared to other garden centre cafes we have been to and the wait for food was short.

Dobbies Garden Centre atherstone food in cafe

All in all, the cafe provided good food, good service and was attractive and pleasant. We rate it very highly.

Disabled Facilities
For a deposit of 10 or your car key, the garden centre will provide a good quality wheel chair at no cost. The aisles are wide enough for easy access around the garden centre. All areas were accessible for wheel chairs by the use of ramps.

Special toilets for the disabled are available and well-equipped. Although none of our party were disabled, we asked several users of the wheel chairs how easy they found the garden centre. All were happy with the facilities with no complaints.

Toilets
The toilets were clean and without any queues. There was a well-equipped parent and baby toilet with nappy changing facilities.

Summary
If you want a day out at a garden centre then we recommend Dobbies at Atherstone highly. There is a huge range of plants and gardening equipment in addition to to the large aquatics and pet centre.

The restaurant is reasonably priced with good food and service. The Plantasia group of attractions is educational and at the same good fun.

The prices of plants and equipment is only average but that is a common element to most of the larger garden centres.
