Pest & Disease Courgette and Zucchini

Courgettes and zucchini are normally healthy plants if the advice on watering described previously is followed.

However they do occasionally suffer from pests and diseases. Especially troublesome are slugs because they love young courgette and zucchini plants.

Keep an eye out for them and act as soon as you see any signs of damage.

Slugs
These can destroy seedlings by eating them away above and below ground. The signs are leaves which been eaten leaving ragged edges. Click here for full details on how to win the war on slugs.

Powdery Mildew
The leaves will be covered with a powdery greyish coating. The prime cause is lack of water for the roots. Click here for more details on how to diagnose and treat this fungal infection.

Aphids
The leaves and growing shoots will be distorted and there may be sticky goo around badly infested surfaces. Click here for how to treat aphids.

Red Spider Mite
The leaves will have little greying spots on them and in bad cases they will turn bronze and then fall off. Click here for help.

Message: Some of my Courgettes start to rot and go a powdery brown in colour.

This happens when they are quite young.

What is the problem please?

Doug.
