Front entrance to the Homeleigh garden centre, Launceston. Started as a milk stand 25 plus years ago, it is now bigger than many department stores.

This is a totally independent review by GardenAction.

Homeleigh garden centre was started over 25 years ago by Derek and Enis Broad and from those humble beginning has grown to be amongst the largest garden centres in southern England.

We were truly amazed at the range of goods on offer, the facilities and especially the overall value for money and quality. In an article of this size we cannot do justice to all that is on offer at this garden centre. We have just concentrated on areas which are of special interest.

PLANTS

View from plant sales area of Homeleigh Garden Centre, Launceston, Cornwall The outdoor plant sales area at Homeleigh garden centre has beautiful views of the surrounding country side. It also stocks a good range of plants which all looked healthy and well-watered.

Our only complaint was that there was no guarantee offered as is sometimes the case with other garden centres.

Homeleigh garden centre is in a rural area where the soil tends to be on the acidic side and many gardens are in coastal areas. With this in mind they not only stock the normal range of garden plants but have also concentrated on plants suitable for the area. Rhododendrons, azaleas and camelias are plentiful as are plants which will survive all that coastal weather can throw at them. These plants are marked as suitable for coastal areas.

Larger than normal pot sizes at this garden centre There is a large range of fruit and other trees for sale as well as an unusually large range of roses. All looked in good condition.

The price of the plants at Homeleigh was average but we did notice that many of the plants came in pots which were larger than normal. Simply comparing plant prices can be deceptive. The shrubs were well established and the correct size for the pots.
