Melbicks Garden Centre

(page 2)

HOUSE PLANTS
Bonsai trees The house plants were extremely well described on the accompanying signs. It was clear which conditions they preferred which is always helpful.

The range of plants was large and they all looked healthy and well watered. The prices were about average. Particularly impressive was the range of bonsai trees, click picture on the left to enlarge.

OTHER FEATURES
This garden centre was a very large and they had a good range of garden accessories and other items. On the right is a picture (click to enlarge) of just some of the huge range of garden furniture on offer.

Clothing stores, gifts, cards, an excellent craft shop and much more. It would be quite possible to spend an afternoon shopping Melbicks.

There was an on site display of hot tubs with seven on show at the time of our visit.

Next to the pet centre (strange!) was a large food hall. Specialities such as biscuits, jams, hams were all available. A food range other meat and vegetables were also for sale.

AQUATICS
This garden centre has a very large aquatics department. There was a good range of all sorts of fish on display plus a full range of accessories including feed, tanks, pumps and lots more.

Outdoor pond plants had not been forgotten either. The range was one of the largest we have seen to date. Click the picture to enlarge.

The range of pond bases, liners and paving on show was extensive.

As well as pond building materials, there was an excellent display of water garden features. Click the picture on the right to enlarge.

PET CENTRE
The pet centre stocked the normal small pets such as birds, hamsters, rabbits etc. The range was good and the prices average. Lots of accessories were also on display.

CAFE
The Terrace Cafe is well worth a visit. The interior is very pleasantly designed and airy. This is a large cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

The indoor area has both a meal section and also has a coffee / tea section. This was good because if you want a quick tea or coffee there is no need to queue up in the main meal section.

There was a good selection of food available ranging from sandwiches up to a good selection main meals specials (four in all).

The food is good quality and served to your table. The quantities are massive! See the picture on the right. The main meals are in the range £6 to £7 which is excellent value .

Note that on Sundays the range of main meals is restricted to two or three choices. There was about a five minute queue in the peak lunch time when we visited which is about average for this type of cafe.

DISABLED FACILITIES
The disabled facilities were excellent. All the surfaces were flat and the aisles were more than wide enough for wheelchair access. Wheelchairs were available at the entrance for no cost.

TOILETS
The toilets were clean and modern with baby changing and disabled facilities. There were no queues.

CAR PARKING
The car park had more than enough parking places and was flat and level.

SUMMARY
A very large garden centre that has a huge range of leisure goods for sale. The plants were good and plentiful although the range was as large as in most garden centres of this size. The cafe was excellent.
