| The unimpressive entrance to the Wyevale Garden
Centre in Coventry. |
This is a totally independent GardenAction review of the
Wyevale Garden Centre in
Coventry.
The Wyevale garden centre in Coventry can be classified
as medium sized. It is in a pleasant area of Coventry near Allesley and
just outside Brownshill Green. They are a five minute drive from Chestnut
Nurseries which is also reviewed in our pages (click here for the
review).
If you were expecting Wyevale's to have a cafe or
restaurant (as we expected) you will be disappointed.
 |
However, there is
a very pleasant country pub a minute's drive from Wyevale's (the White
Lion) which serves excellent, well-priced food and has a good range of
beers.
Turn right out of Wyevale, across the roundabout immediately in
front of you and the White Lion is about a half a mile on your right. |
PLANTS
 |
For a medium-sized garden centre the range of plants
was fine. Surprisingly Wyevale's appears to be the largest garden
centre in Coventry, so the range is as good
as you will get in Coventry. Wyevale offer a five year guarantee
on all their perennial plants which is very encouraging, showing
confidence in the quality of their plants. |
| It was not easy to locate some plants because the
signs were not sufficient. The main groupings are OK (roses, azaleas
etc) but try and find a potentilla for example and it's not so clear.
There was no attended help desk or information centre in this garden
centre but that's the normal for a garden centre of this size. |
 |
The quality of most plants looked reasonable but
there were several specimens dotted around which looked on their
last legs.
Wyevale offer a "double the difference" if you find a plant
cheaper at a garden centre or nursery within 10 miles. We haven't
seen this at other Wyevale garden centres, maybe Coventry is leading
the way! |
PRICES
The price of our standard shopping basket at Wyevale Coventry garden
centre was about average with no great surprises. There were a few
special offers but it was hard to see that they were any different to
multiple purchases at most other garden centres
